Posting a Blue Monday Moment.

Right then, first of all you have sign up and gain a profile. As usual on sites like this think of a user name and a password and away you go. As soon as you have done this you will able to post your Blue Monday Moment’s like the one below onto the site and you will be able to vote on other peoples. But have a serious think before you post and try & remember the stuff that’s really important to you. Make sure the song is over two years old so the memory really is a memory and not just something that happened last week or a song that will be important in the future. It’s all about what has gone before, not you think will be important in the future.

So anyway, here’s another one of mine that we can use as an example.

Let’s Go Crazy – Prince

And so after girls, we get onto cars. Everyone has a first car song and this one was mine. Not my own of course, I was still too skint but I had just passed my test so my new friend A took me out to look round east K for a car for yours truly. Now it was a lovely spring Sunday, he’d just got the Purple Rain soundtrack on cassette and his car was a green Triumph Spitfire so you can probably guess the rest. Its 1985 so no speed cameras, petrol’s cheap, no police around every corner, just the joy of motoring with the roof off. We even did a handbrake turn in a car park full of tourists. That’s right, a hand brake turn! And this song was playing as the rear of car came round as everyone stared at us, thinking “what a pair of pillocks”. We’d have got our number taken and six months inside for that now. Didn’t find a car for me but I do remember we spent most of the day laughing.

Once you have written a Moment like this you can then decide what different sub sections where you would like it appear in from the list below.

Sub sections:

Heartbeat, increasing heartbeat (the 1st song you can really remember.)

Children (songs from your childhood)

Our House (family)

Baggy trousers (school)

This summer (holidays)

Last Christmas (err…Christmas)

Last day of June. (first love)

Cars. (er..cars)

Back on the chain gang (work)

Saturday night (going out)

No Sleep til Brooklyn! (gigs)

Delirious (health)

You’re my best friend (friends)

Nobody Takes Me Seriously (funny)

Play to win (sports)

Signed, sealed & delivered. (true love)

Going to the Chapel (marriage)

Keep it dark (creepy or weird)

Away down the river. (death)

Blue Monday Moment. (memories of only that song.)

So if it was the memory above you would definitely put it into the ‘Cars’ sub section. You might also want to put it into the ‘Friends’ section as well. Once you’ve decided where you want to put it, press the post button and on it goes (after a short delay for moderation.) It now appears in your profile and in the selected sub section. If you are also the newest post, it will automatically get placed on the home page for a fleeting moment of glory (yea!). As you may have noticed from having got this far, non members can view the front page, the sub sections and individual profiles. But of course they can’t post Blue Monday Moments or vote….

Now here comes the fun bit for when you sign up to be a member. The actual sub sections are in order of posting but you will see that there are also some charts listed on the home page. This means you get to vote on what you think the best Blue Monday Moments are. But remember don’t vote just because you like the song, if you have a Moment related to that song or if you work for the record company and want to promote that artist. You should vote on how much you enjoyed reading the Moment. The charts are;

Please do vote if you find a good Moment because it makes life more worthwhile! Just think how happy you’ll be going to work knowing that your memory about jogging in the park is number one in the sports list.

What isn’t a Blue Monday Moment:

Sorry to get all grumpy for a second but here’s what we don’t want as Blue Monday Moments.

It has to be a story that relates to you. Please don’t start making things up.

This isn’t a music review or criticism site. Please keep things relevant to a story and do not go off on a tangent saying how great the production is on that particular track or how the bands drummer isn’t as good as the first drummer they had. And if your story has something to do with a movie or a TV programme, don’t start reviewing that either.

It has to actually be a story. Posting “This song reminds of the 49’s and the 49’s rule!!” or “This track just reminds me of Becky,” is not what we need. However, keep it relevant. We don’t want your complete life story in one post.

Please don’t post all the song lyrics to a particular track within the story. A few lines here and there is okay but reproducing the whole tune could get the copyright police coming around and that won’t be any fun.

Don’t post lots of songs by the same artist. Again this isn’t an artist promotion site, we want lots of different types of music and musicians & if you just fill your profile full of songs by Desperate Gordon & The Damage then we might think you’re an A & R man.

Obviously the same rules apply that you may have found on any other forum you might have joined. So any racist, sexist, pornographic, libellous, slanderous or defamatory stories will be deleted and we reserve the right to terminate your membership if you continue to post similar stories that might be upsetting the other users. The same goes for if you post links to other websites within your stories.

As mentioned above make sure the song and the memory are over two years old. We figure that memory isn’t really a memory until you’ve had time to think about it and also it stops promotion of recent chart successes.

We have to have a time limit as far as age of records is concerned so we’re going to go with “Heartbreak Hotel” by Elvis Presley. Any song before that we won’t count so no classical music I’m afraid.

Think long and hard about changing the names of the faces & the places in your posts. Some of your stories from the might be a bit embarrassing to the people in them now & they might not appreciate them being posted up for the whole world to see. And none of us want any lawsuits.

Don’t advertise any companies, products or services within your posts. Obviously you can mention where a moment happened like “This happened when I was working at Billy’s Burger Joint”. But “This happened when I was working at Billy’s Burger Joint and they make the best burgers in Ottawa. Next time you’re in Ottawa you should really try Billy’s Burgers Joint,” isn’t.

So in more serious terms please don’t

1. Post insulting, threatening or defamatory material.

2. Post any material likely to cause undue annoyance, provocation, upset or embarrassment to any reasonable person.

3. Name companies or individuals in relation to accusations of malpractice, fraud or other criminal or civil offences.

4. Use the forums to harass anyone, including but not limited to posting personal or private information and images.

5. Post material which infringes copyright or other intellectual property rights.

6. Post material or links to material that may be considered pornographic, violent, racist, sexist or voyeuristic or is otherwise offensive or unlawful.

7. Post links to websites or adverts for your own commercial gain. Please use our classifieds section for cars, parts etc. or contact the sales team for banner advertising.

8. Create multiple profiles.

If you do any of these things you will be deleted and your membership will be cancelled.
