I hadn’t really thought about this track for ages and now I’ve been thinking about my life in music, I’ve re-discovered how great this cover version is. Anyway the story that goes with it.
Monaco 1985, Grand Prix first practice, a gloriously sunny day. I was in the Mirabeau grandstand which means we could hear them come down from Casino Square and into Station hairpin, then down to us and onto the tunnel. Even with my Walkman headphones on as you might expect I could hear the rising thunder as they approached. Then the first car shot into view half way through this song, Senna in the JPS-Lotus. Burned into the retina, a genius at work, a flash of black and gold, a yellow helmet barely glimpsing the apex of the corner & then away. Get It On indeed. A couple of laps later I shot an amazing photo of him and that car and its still on the wall of my office.
